Ever since the 1st of the year, I wondered what I should put here for my New Years address. Should I confess my private goals? Should I spill my guts about how 2013 was a year of both intense failure and intense triumph? Should I summarize the high points? Should I…? and two weeks went by… and there were the pictures of my fabulous, New Years dress, getting older, day by day, in my phone… The bottom line is simple, if I could want anything in the New Year for everyone it would be this: Keep dreaming. Keep Creating. Keep putting a future there that is beautiful. Keep believing and deciding every day that you can have the life that exists in your head. And never decide that it’s too late for your dreams- because sometimes you just needed to keep dreaming a little longer…
Dreams Are Best
by Robert William Service
I just think that dreams are best,
Just to sit and fancy things;
Give your gold no acid test,
Try not how your silver rings;
Fancy women pure and good,
Fancy men upright and true:
Fortressed in your solitude,
Let Life be a dream to you.
For I think that Thought is all;
Truth’s a minion of the mind;
Love’s ideal comes at call;
As ye seek so shall ye find.
But ye must not seek too far;
Things are never what they seem:
Let a star be just a star,
And a woman — just a dream.
O you Dreamers, proud and pure,
You have gleaned the sweet of life!
Golden truths that shall endure
Over pain and doubt and strife.
I would rather be a fool
Living in my Paradise,
Than the leader of a school,
Sadly sane and weary wise.
O you Cynics with your sneers,
Fallen brains and hearts of brass,
Tweak me by my foolish ears,
Write me down a simple ass!
I’ll believe the real “you”
Is the “you” without a taint;
I’ll believe each woman too,
But a slightly damaged saint.
Yes, I’ll smoke my cigarette,
Vestured in my garb of dreams,
And I’ll borrow no regret;
All is gold that golden gleams.
So I’ll charm my solitude
With the faith that Life is blest,
Brave and noble, bright and good, . . .
Oh, I think that dreams are best!
My New Years outfit probably cost me less than $25- for everything! I wore a gifted white lace bodysuit and layered two thrifted vintage camisoles over it. I’m such a huge fan of thrifted camis- Every time I go to the goodwill- I always check the lingerie section for cool vintage slips and camisoles- they are such a great wardrobe piece!! and always under $5!! The skirt was made by me- and was the bottom half of a bridesmaids dress from earlier in the year.
The thing that truly added the New Years Magic to this outfit was loads and loads and chainage. Two vintage watches from my grandmother (just so perfect for New Years!) some gifted chains, a unique design from a friend and an H&M art decco hummingbird from forever ago. I threw on a bunch of bronzey, glittery makeup with a heavy top liner and purple accents to pull it all together for the night.
I painted my nails iridescent violet and put glitter just on the tips.
But truth be told- my roomate Amanda definitely stole the show with her nail art.
The hair was super easy to do and so very Modern-Gatsby-Fab. I just pulled some strands from the side and pinned it across my forehead in each direction to make a headband.

As I mentioned earlier, 2013 was a year where I had some of my greatest success and biggest failure and losses. It was also the first year- with the incredible support of friends and family, that I worked entirely for myself. I’m really excited about what is up ahead and I can’t wait to share it with you all here. 🙂 Keep Dreaming my friends!
XO,
Elisa
This is all so fabuloso!! And that poem was my exact viewpoint for most of my life.
